DDVP Strips

Here is a question from a viewer that came through in an email to me. It's on the topic of DDVP Strips, and thought this was a good question to share with everyone. Please feel free to comment. (See My Response below the questions)

Hello there,

I have a quick question. I have a small digital camera that may have been exposed to bed bugs. I am not sure. Right now its in a ziploc bag, double bagged. I was thinking of placing  a ddvp strip in either the ziplock bag or putting a ddvp strip in a large garbage bag along with the camera ( I read the strip are very powerful and needs room for all the poison it contains).

My questions:

1. Is this a good idea? Will the strips hurt my camera? I has a aluminum metal casing.

2. Should I get Hot Shot or Nuvan strips? I saw on a video from you that nuvan is the only product that is listed for bed bugs. Do you know where I can get these strips in the nyc area?

3. Do the strips need as long as 4 months to work?

Thanks for the e-mail.

Unfortunately I can't say whether or not the strips will hurt your camera.  I don't expect it to but I would contact the manufacturer of the product and ask them.  They would know better as I'm not an expert on their product.

You need to check the regulations in the state you are living in.  NY, CA and Canada require the pest to be listed on the label as a target pest in order to use the product.  If so, you would have to use Nuvan.  If that is not a requirement, you could use Hot Shot.

We recommend leaving the strips in a bag for treatment for at least 14 days but as long as possible is always good.  If I were you I would probably leave them for at least 3 weeks but again, I would contact the manufacturer for further guidance.

As for the Wolbacchia concept, it may have potential but has a long way to go in development.  We'll see.

Thanks again.

Jeff
