In this episode Jeff will describe the most effective way to apply dusts to kill bed bugs. When working in homes, it is common to see white dusts applied to the surface of floors and carpets in an attempt to kill bed bugs. While some dusts allow for it to be applied in this fashion it may not be the most effective way to treat for bed bugs. When applying dusts to kill bed bugs, it may be best to get the dust into cracks, crevices and voids. The idea behind this treatment is to get the dust to where the bugs are hiding. By doing so, you optimize the chance that you kill the bugs and if the dust does not get wet, it should be active for a long period of time and thus eliminate that crack as a place to hide for the bugs. If you place the dust on the top of the floor or carpeting, there is a chance the bug may avoid the dust and find another way to get to the sleeping person. Also, applying dusts on to the surface of flooring may not be the best option if pets or children are present in the home.

In this episode, Jeff will discuss a new concept on Bed Bug Central called bedbugFREE. BedbugFREE is a network of pest control companies throughout the United States that share the same philosophies and approaches to bed bug management as Bed Bug Central. Some examples of approaches that Bed Bug Central uses that the companies that are approved also must use are: high quality encasements, a multi-disciplinary approach (using steamers, Cryonite, etc…), a well designed follow-up program, and many others. If a pest control company applies to become bedbugFREE, their application is reviewed by the team here at Bed Bug Central and if their approaches are similar to ours, they become bedbugFREE approved and if you proceed to www.bedbugcentral.com and under the bedbugFREE icon search the state you are inquiring about and you will see a list of bedbugFREE approved companies in your state. Please be aware that if a company is not bedbugFREE approved and does not appear on our website, it does not mean that they are a poor pest control company. BedbugFREE is a list of companies that decided that they wanted to become approved and approach bed bugs similar to the way that we do and went through our application process.
